John has more than 39 and 33, respectively, for years of experience and years in public accounting. During the last 17 years, John has spent most of his professional time performing business valuations and related litigation consulting and litigation support services. In addition to his valuation and litigation work, he continues to serve clients in the contracting, wholesale distribution, sports entertainment, and retail industries, providing various business advisory consulting services.

John has performed valuations in a variety of contexts, including marital dissolutions, estate, gift, and income tax planning and reporting, shareholder transactions, and mergers and acquisitions. He has valued companies engaged in the coal, oil and gas, construction, manufacturing, equine, healthcare, and wholesale distribution industries. He helped initiate the firm’s annual accounting update, which is now in its 21st year. He helps clients implement new accounting standards and strengthen their internal control environment. Professional Experience

Justin currently leads Dean Dorton’s Accounting and Financial Outsourcing (AFO) group, providing outsourced accounting and business consulting services to clients throughout the country in a variety of industries. A primary focus of the AFO group is leveraging technology to automate processing, while gaining greater insights to information that will help business leaders make decisions and achieve business goals.

Upon obtaining his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Kentucky in 2003, Justin spent two years overseeing the accounting department of a privately held coal company. In December 2005, he obtained his Master’s degree in Accounting from the University of Kentucky and began practicing public accounting at Dean Dorton in January 2006. He has provided audit, tax, and consulting services for clients in various industries throughout Kentucky.

Justin has 15 years of public accounting experience, providing assurance, accounting, business advisory, and tax services to clients in the healthcare, construction, natural resource, nonprofit, and higher education industries. Justin works specifically within our healthcare and natural resource industry teams. Prior to coming to Dean Dorton, Justin worked for various small businesses and has a passion for working alongside small business and local entrepreneurs.

Speaking Engagements

Justin has experience in speaking publicly to a variety of groups, including presenting updates of the new revenue recognition standards and changes in accounting rules to clients and professionals, a presentation of how to interpret financial statements to an MBA class at the University of Kentucky, an accounting update and financial tips to local entrepreneurs, and presentations on various technical topics within the coal, natural gas, and oil industries.
