Dean Dorton is proud to announce the addition of the new leader of their Louisville tax practice, Joe Johnston, CPA, PFS. Johnston joined Dean Dorton effective August 12. Johnston brings an impressive level of experience to an already thriving tax practice.

Johnston also has an extensive background on tax process improvement and has an exceptional reputation serving clients. He brings an incredibly diverse background of industry experience to his new role. Johnston has served a wide range of manufacturing companies, including tier one and tier two automotive suppliers and worked for companies specializing in injection-molding, forging, plastics, printing, transportation, construction, engineering and real estate development. His broad experience palette makes him a perfect fit for an ever-growing, innovative and forward-thinking firm such as Dean Dorton.

Johnston, previously worked at Strothman + Company where he was responsible for the integration of two CPA firm’s tax practices and was responsible for day-to-day operations of a large-scale tax department.

Johnston has managed clients ranging in size from under $5 million to over $500 million in revenue. Before Dean Dorton, he worked two years as controller for a $200 million division of a multi-national engineering company.
“I’ve focused on tax planning and consulting. I help clients arrive at the best tax strategies and guide them in their business operations. I excel at project management and empowering clients to make well informed decisions. My goal is to help clients interpret financial data in meaningful ways so they can better understand their daily business operations. I believe strongly that merging financial data, tax-planning strategies and operational realities helps management see, understand and manage the critical issues facing their business.”
Johnston earned his Bachelors of Science in Business Administration from the University of Louisville. He is an active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), and serves on the Tax Committee for Kentucky Society of Certified Public Accountants (KSCPA).
