John Wurtenberger, CPA

Professional Experience

John has robust experience providing audit and consulting services to clients of various sizes and industries. John began his public accounting career at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), where he excelled as a leader within the assurance practice in Louisville, Kentucky and served as a Director of Quality Management within PwC’s national office in New Jersey. At PwC, John was the lead audit director on both public and private companies with multiple locations and international operations.

His experience includes a vast knowledge of US and international accounting standards, as well as both SEC and AICPA rules and regulations. John has assisted clients with key technical accounting issues such as acquisitions and divestitures, debt issuance and modification, IFRS to US GAAP differences, implementation of accounting standards, valuation of goodwill and intangible assets, and share-based compensation arrangements.

John serves on the firm’s nonprofit, healthcare, real estate, and manufacturing industry teams and has extensive experience in providing audit and consulting services to each of these industries. As an Assurance Director, John is responsible for several Dean Dorton engagements in Kentucky, Southern Indiana, and North Carolin, where he focuses on building long-term, value-add relationships with clients and advising them on issues and opportunities affecting their business.

In addition, John also serves as the leader of the Assurance practice for Dean Dorton and a member of the COVID-19 response team specializing in the CARES Act and the Paycheck Protection Program, Shuttered Venue Operator Grants, and Employee Retention Credits.
