Dean Dorton is proud to announce the addition of Erica L. Horn, CPA, J.D. Erica joins Dean Dorton as an Associate Director of Tax Services, based out of the Lexington office, significantly growing the firm’s local presence as well as its overall state and local tax expertise.
Formerly counsel to the firm at Stoll Keenon Ogden, PLLC and a member of Stites & Harbison, PLLC, Erica has more than 27 years of experience in Kentucky as an attorney and licensed CPA. She has represented clients regarding nearly all of Kentucky’s taxes and fees including income, sales and use, property, and severance taxes. Erica has successfully appealed assessments issued by taxing authorities and pursued refund claims for her clients, saving them millions of dollars in Kentucky taxes. Erica is a frequent speaker and prolific author on state and local tax topics.
Erica has served on the Tax Committee of the Kentucky Society of Certified Public Accountants since 2006. In her role as a committee member, she has worked with the Department of Revenue and legislators on challenges confronted by companies doing business in Kentucky and to strengthen Kentucky’s tax code.
Erica was appointed to serve on the boards of directors of the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority, Kentucky Higher Education Student Loan Corporation, and Kentucky Affordable Prepaid Tuition. She served as Chairperson of the boards and chair of those agencies’ Finance and Audit Committees. Also, she is co-founder of GleanKY, a non-profit, 501 (c)(3) corporation that gathers and redistributes excess fresh fruits and vegetables to nourish Kentucky’s hungry.

Erica earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Kentucky College of Law and her Bachelor of Arts in Accounting, from Transylvania University. She is a member of the Kentucky Society of Certified Public Accountants, the American Bar Association, Section of Taxation, and the Institute of Professionals in Taxation.
