As workforce shortages and skills gaps continue to challenge employers across industries, many organizations are exploring ways to strengthen internal talent pipelines. For Indiana businesses, the Employer Training Grant (ETG) may help offset the cost of employee training and development.
Administered by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, the program provides financial assistance to employers that invest in training programs designed to prepare employees for in-demand roles.
How the Program Works
Previous programs administered by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development focused on bringing new hires into the company. The Employer Training Grants focus on building and training the current workforce and new hires within their respective companies. Through the Employer Training Grant, businesses may receive reimbursement of up to $5,000 per employee trained, with a maximum award of $50,000 per employer, provided the training meets specific requirements.
To qualify, training programs must include at least 40 hours of instruction and result in a recognized certificate or credential. In addition, participating employees must remain employed by the company for at least 6 months following completion of the training for the employer to receive reimbursement.
Why This Matters for Employers
For many companies, training costs can create barriers to developing internal talent and addressing workforce needs. Programs like the Employer Training Grant are designed to help reduce those barriers by encouraging employers to invest in employee skill development.
Businesses operating in industries such as advanced manufacturing, construction, information technology, agriculture, health and life sciences, and transportation and logistics may find the program particularly relevant.
Organizations evaluating workforce development initiatives may want to consider how programs like the Employer Training Grant could help support training investments while strengthening long-term talent strategies.
