Tom worked for KPMG for 23 years seving as partner in charge of the South Bend, IN tax practice and then the Louisville/Lexington tax practice. While at KPMG, he served on the Professional Practice Review Committee and the Chairman’s Leadership Council. His practice focused on large industrial  corporations, financial institutions and cooperatives. When Tom left KPMG, he helped form Buetow Le Mastus & Dick, PLLC (BLD). Tom assumed assurance and business advisory responsibilities in addition to tax responsibilities for pharmaceutical companies, financial institutions, and investment funds. He has experience in taking companies public and in mergers and acquisitions, and thus enjoys advising clients on structuring entities and providing expert testimony in litigation. Tom also led two successful hostile corporate acquisitions.

In addition to his public accounting practice, Tom has been involved with a number of private companies in various roles, including as an investor:

  • Concept Inc., private prison construction and management – CFO, Director
  • AutoMon Corporation, parole and probation case management software – Director
  • CMB Development Company, residential land development – Partner
  • Western District, LLC, industrial warehouse leasing – President, Director
  • Louisville Bedding Company, manufacturer of bedding components – Director, Audit Committee chair

Speaking Engagements

Tom authored a bi-weekly tax article for Business First for five years, and published an article in Taxation for Accountants on purchase price allocations. He has been a frequent speaker to professional organizations including the Financial Executive’s Institute, National Association of Accountants for Cooperatives and others. He has also been a frequent speaker on tax topics on television and radio.
