Dean Dorton’s Nonprofit and Government Team

The Dean Dorton Nonprofit team consists of professionals who meet the needs of over 100 organizations in the areas of assurance, tax, consulting, Federal Award Compliance, technology and more. Our objective is to maintain the most current information available as it relates to developments for not-for-profit organizations so your organization can focus on success and not regulations.

Our firm has extensive experience providing audit, tax, and consulting services for government-related and not-for-profit organizations, including many years of college and university experience. We are a recognized expert in the not-for-profit consulting and compliance field.

For most not-for-profit entities, their reputation risk (or fraud risk) is by far the biggest business risk. Public, not-for-profit entities suffer mightily when even the smallest of frauds becomes a newspaper headline. As such, we’ll spend much of our time understanding, documenting, and testing the organization’s internal controls in an effort to minimize reputation risk. Our nonprofit and government assurance clients include:

  • Foundations
  • Professional and trade associations
  • Charitable organizations and agencies
  • Educational institutions
  • Religious organizations
  • Membership organizations
  • Cultural organizations
  • Research and scientific organizations
  • 501(c) organizations with revenues as large as $500,000,000
  • Quasi-governmental entities with revenues as large as $130,000,000

We established our nonprofit industry team to maximize the quality and delivery of our services. The team consists of 30 audit, tax, and consulting professionals. Dean Dorton’s nonprofit industry team exists both to serve our nonprofit and government clients more efficiently and to continue deepening our knowledge of the industry, especially as our clientele in this group continues to grow and diversify. Members of our nonprofit industry team have written many articles, spoken at events, and led training and are considered leaders in the nonprofit sector. We are interested in the nonprofit sector, know its specialized issues, and can provide a wide range of valuable services designed to both optimize tax results and avoid unanticipated problems including:
